Ellen started the CoDe Lab with Mark in Fall 2004. In January 2006 Ellen left Carnegie Mellon to accept a tenured faculty position at Georgia Tech joint between the College of Architecture's PhD program and in the Human-Centric Computing program in the College of Computing. She continues to participate in the laboratory's work and in advising students from her position at Georgia Tech.
Ellen is committed to building better design tools, based on understanding the human intelligence involved in the design process and leading to the improvement of the interface with computers. Her research explores new modalities of communication, collaboration, and coordination, as well as the physical and virtual worlds that push the current boundaries of computing environments for design.
