The modernista movement centered around the Barcelona School of Architecture led by Domènech Balet i Nadal and Antoni Gaudi i Cornet. These architects were interested in the free interplay of color and form. Their structural systems and methods of construction are also interesting because of their complexity and extreme attention to detail.
The modernista movement is linked with Art Noveau in France, Jugendstil in Germany, Wendingen in Holland and the Sezession Movement in Austria.
