The scenario unfolds as follows: A person walks up to a blank canvas hanging on a wall. A hidden camera takes the person’s picture without them being aware. The person touches the screen, and paint daubs spew from their finger. As they move their finger across the screen, a painterly representation of themselves (derived from the photo taken by the camera) is eventually revealed on the canvas. The surprised and hopefully delighted person, if so inclined, ponders the relationship between digital technology and art, technology as a reflection of the humans who create it, the ethical considerations of surveillance video, the shrinking distance between people and technology, and maybe even the seemingly insurmountable distance between man and God.
