We took an approach of not limiting our design for the competition, rather designing a home that we felt either of us would want to live in more or less (we realize a bathroom is missing). The design stayed within the bounds of the competition rules that we knew about. We started with the dimensions of the house and then considered what cool projects students in the class worked on. This mainly drove our design.
Elevator: A solution to the fact that stairs will take up a lot of room.
Fireman's Pole: Thought this would be a fun addition to any house. Plus it helps keep the flow of people on the 2nd floor smooth and in a circular manner so that they do not have to go up AND down the elevator.
Adjusting Roof: We wanted to allow the house to have multiple states. So a cheap way to do this was to adjust the amount of light let in by the roof. We figured we could make the roof like a window and adjust the blinds on it to let in differing amounts of light.
2nd Floor: The 2nd floor is only half the width of the first floor in order to allow people on the second floor to be able to see what is happening on the 1st floor.
Living Room: Includes the springy kids floor and sofa. We felt this was a play area where people could just go have fun.
Kitchen: Includes the Personal Market and Grill.
